Where a handicap was an estimate for a new or lapsed runner they only score one point but their handicap for next month will be based on this time and qualify for a full score. A season’s best earns two bonus points. Please check your statistics on both tables and notify me of any errors.
Does anything dampen the enthusiasm of Lytham St. Anne’s Road Runners? Apparently not if a good turnout of twenty runners prepared to tough it out in gale force winds is anything to go by! And even more surprising three were first-timers (or rookies in Ashley’s language), Julia Rabes and Ashley and Ryan Heywood. What’s more, our newcomers made tonight our first international monthly handicap with the first three over the line representing Spain, U.S.A. and Germany.
Congratulations to Mel, who was the ‘official’ winner although third past the post. She even managed a pb for the course, unsurprisingly the only one to do so. However, everyone who ran or helped tonight deserves praise. My suggestion that we might cancel was given short shrift as the will to triumph over adversity won the day and, judging by the high spirits at the finish, carrying on was the best decision.
Thanks to Layla and Terry for their help and to everyone who took part. I hope we see a similar or even larger number next month – after tonight no-one can offer the weather as an excuse ever again!
Bill.
