The 12th running of the Green Drive 5 took place on 16th October 2011 in excellent conditions. The race attracted a sizeable entry of 374 for the race through rural Fylde.
The comfortable victor over a strong men's field was top 3000m steeplechaser Stuart Stokes of Sale Harriers. Stokes, who has represented England in the past three Commonwealth Games, recorded an impressive 24.09 for the 5 miles, just 3 seconds outside the race record to finish well ahead of second-placed local runner Stuart Robinson of Blackpool Wyre & Fylde. The Blackpool men had an inspired day with Luke Minns finishing third and outstanding junior Daniel Quarmby fourth. Unsurprisingly this trio collected both the race team prize and the Lancashire A. A. team championship.
For the second year running the women's race was won by Lytham's remarkable veteran Susan Samme. To win outright at this level at the age of 48 is an outstanding achievement and her time of 29.58 moves Samme up to second in the national rankings for her age group. Second-placed lady in a race where veterans led the way was W35 Sarah Ridehalgh of Accrington in 30.46 with Yvonne Wyke of Parbold Pink Panthers third, a further minute behind. Wesham's Joanna Goorney's fourth spot, along with good support from Helen Lawrenson, 7th and Kath Hoyer, 16th, earned the Wesham ladies a race and Lancashire Championships team double.
