Charitable Activities

LSARRC is not a charity and as such we do not, nor can we, endorse, support or promote any single charity.

However, from time to time individual members of the club may choose on a personal basis to support a particular charity or cause.

With the approval of the Committee a link to a charitable donation service, such as justgiving.com or VirginMoneyGiving may be added to this page for a period of time.

Debbie Cooper

I am raising money for The Sick Children's Trust, who provide accommodation for the families of sick children. Since my nephew George was born last year he has spent weeks in Sheffield hospital and thanks to the trust his family could stay near him. It was also helpful at this difficult time having other parents in the same situation around them.

The Sick Children's Trust provides Home from Home accommodation for the families of sick children whilst they receive vital medical treatment in hospital often far from home. Families are able to stay together close to their child and offer each other essential support during a difficult time.

If you wish to help me in this quest please visit my JustGiving fundraising page at Debbie Cooper which has more details.

Ben Reid

Ben our son has been a patient in Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital since 30 Sep 2014, that's nearly 6 months as I write. Many of you will know that he is making great progress but you will also understand that his recovery will take a little longer. Whilst in hospital Ben has received the best of care delivered personally by some amazing medical staff. We have tried to keep our family together and this would not have been possible without the help and support of Ronald McDonald House Manchester. I want to raise money to support these two organisations that are helping our family during this difficult time.

Alan Elstone

My dad, who is only 51, suffered a stroke at home in September 2014. Luckily my sister and mum spotted the signs early and he was rushed to hospital quickly. With treatment, 7 months on his condition has improved greatly. I have decided to run Freckleton Half Marathon on 21st June this year in order to raise money for the Stroke Association. Any donation of any size for this cause will be greatly received, and will help towards research to save lives and ensure people have the best recovery they can after a stroke.

I only took up running properly in May last year when I joined the club and this will be my biggest challenge so far as a runner! On race day I'll be wearing a purple 'Stroke Association' vest and not my green Lytham club vest, please look out for me! Thanks, Alan.

If you wish to help me in this quest please visit my JustGiving fundraising page at Alan Elstone which has more details.

Fiona Geldard

Mum lost her battle with cancer after a fight of 11 months. She was responding well to Chemotherapy and Radio therapy, however the cancer spread to her brain and the battle was lost....Now I'm fighting the battle for her!

I am competing in the Florida Iron Man 2016, a distance of 2.2 mile sea swim, 112 mile bike ride followed by a 26.2 mile marathon run.

I intend to complete other events in the build up including the London Marathon, Lakes open water challenges, Chester Triathlon and Half Iron Man.

Brian Porter Jumps Out Of An Aeroplane

On Friday 10th July Brian went down to Lincolnshire to commentate on an attempt to break the world record for most tandem skydives in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. Brian isn't overly fond of heights and the only way he agreed to do it was on the assurance he would be safely strapped inside the plane. While there someone suggested he take part, his response being only if they donated £1000. Well, they scrabbled round, found £1000 and Brian had no choice, he jumped. With just a thin piece of canvas strapped to his back to keep him safe and sound. Much screaming later he landed on the ground alive and well. He originally set up a justgiving page for his 15 hours continual commentating attempt, which for those of you who know Brian, is rather a quiet day for him, but following his "did he jump or was he pushed" event he deserves even more, so if you want to help please feel free to follow this link and do so.
